Introducing Mr Pickles – Huddersfield Born n Bred

Mr Pickles, Walter to his friends, has been making chutneys and relishes since he were a lad.
He’s proper proud of his products and all things Yorkshire, most of all his home town of Huddersfield.
In order to get to know him better we asked him a few questions.

Which is your favourite Shaws product?
Mr Pickles: Our Piccalilli, its got bite.
How do you eat it?
Mr Pickles: No better way t’have piccalilli than wi’ a Jones pork pie
Where is your favourite picnic spot?
Mr Pickles: It’s a grand walk out to the lovely Eastergate bridge above Marsden, best spot, you can’t beat it.
What do you do when not eating chutney?
Mr Pickles: Well if I’m not eating it then I’ll be making it of course!
What’s your favourite crisp flavour?
Mr Pickles: I’m partial to a few Cheese & Onion crisps every now ‘n then. Not too many mind!
What do you enjoy most about Huddersfield?
Mr Pickles: It’s full of salt of t’earth proper folk, now’t like ’em anywhere else.
What can you not live without?
Mr Pickles: I wouldn’t be without my dog Stanley to keep me company & my Huddersfield cloth flat cap to keep my head warm.
Tell us a Joke…
Mr Pickles: A Yorkshireman goes to a goldsmiths and asks, “Can tha mek us a gold statue o’me whippet?”
The goldsmith says he can, then asks: “Do you want it 18 carat?”
The man replies :”Nay lad, chewin’ a bone’ll do fine.”
